TC-4
Tropical Composition, Cloud, and Climate Coupling
Location: San Jose, Costa Rica | Coordinates: 09°59′N 84°12′W
Flights investigated the structure, properties and processes in the tropical Eastern Pacific between 17 July and 8 August 2007. High altitude aircraft collected tropopause data while the medium altitude aircraft provided profiles and structure measurements of the tropical upper troposphere and lower stratosphere. TC4 was sponsored by the NASA Headquarters Atmospheric Composition Focus Area including the Upper Atmospheric Research Program, the Radiation Science Program, and the Tropospheric Chemistry Program.
- Coordinated flights with WB-57, ER-2, and DC-8.
- There were 10 ER-2 science flights flown.
- Aircraft flights were coordinated with multiple satellite overpasses (AURA, CLOUDSAT, CALIPSO, AQUA, and PARSOL).
- Coordination with ground based observing facilities and balloon launches.
- ER-2 Instruments: AMPR, CRS, EDOP, CPL, CoSSIR, S-HIS, MTP, MVIS, MAS.
