Investigation of Microphysics and Precipitation for Atlantic Coast-Threatening Snowstorms

Location: Hunter Army Airfield, Savannah, GA

Coordinates: 32°00′56.3184°N 81°08′35.2572°W

  • NASA Earth Venture Suborbital-3 (EVS-3) Mission focused on U.S. East Coast winter snow storms during January-February 2020.
  • Coordinated flights with ER-2 for remote sensing and P-3 for in situ microphysics measurements.
  • ER-2 payload: HIWRAP (Ku/Ka-band), CRS (W-band), EXRAD (X-band), AMPR (10-90 GHZ), CoSMIR (90-183 GHz), and LIP (electrification).
  • ER-2 was based at Hunter AAF in Savannah, Georgia. 
  • P-3 was based at NASA Wallops Flight Facility.
