Hurricane and Severe Storm Sentinel (HS3) 2012

Location: NASA Dryden, Edwards AFB, CA  |  Coordinates: 34°57′3″N 117°53′11.47″W

• HIWRAP was installed on Global Hawk AV-1.
• Payload consisted of HIWRAP, HIWRAD, and HAMSR.
• AV-1 was too late to deploy to Wallops Flight Facility, so instead a single 24-hour science flight was performed over the Pacific based at Dryden Flight Research Center.
• This flight primarily focused on ocean surface winds to support HIRAD calibration, so very little precipitation was observed. Some precipitation was observed with a frontal system south of the Aleutian Islands.
