This document contains a record of all system upgrades, major modifications, and any system anomalies. EVENT TYPE: LOSS OF DATA DUE TO DISRUPTION FROM CSAT3B NOT FUNCTIONING AND DEBUGGING WITH CAMPBELL SCIENTIFIC TECH SUPPORT. WHEN: 2024/03/08 IMPACT: Due to previous issue mentioned on 05 March with CSAT3B Sonic Anemometer, a routine manual time update cause the weather station to develop issues running through the 3rd scan sequence, which resulted in the Met_Data, Pluvio, and Pyranometer to be skipped and thus not recorded after 0401 UTC. Other tables were not subject to this same issue and were only disrupted while I debugged the situation with Campbell Scientific Tech support and following the initial time update (3 time periods (0425-0548, 1732-1804, and 2051-2359). The Met_Data, Pluvio, and Pyranometer are lost until they can be restored from the Public file. As of 0000 UTC on 06 March, all Sonic tables have been stopped, but all other data tables are populating as expected. EVENT TYPE: CSAT3B NOT FUNCTIONING, SONIC ANEMOMETER CONNECTION CANNOT BE ESTABLISHED DUE TO POSSIBLE POWER SURGE. WHEN: 2024/03/05 0019 UTC - Present IMPACT: Following this time the CR1000X datalogger has been unable to connect to the CSAT3B Sonic Anemometer. Following this time, all sonic anemometer tables have recorded only NaN's. The CSAT3B has been removed from data scan loop at of 0000UTC on March 06 pending an investigation of the root cause of the CSAT3B's loss of connectivity. Have reached out to Campbell Scientific and will work towards diagnosing the issue at a later date. EVENT TYPE: NETWORK INSTABILITY WITH ALL-SKY CAMERA FOLLOWING B33 POWER SYSTEM MAINTENANCE ON 16 FEB WHEN: ~2024/02/17 - 2024/02/20 IMPACT: Due to power work in B33, the network connection to the all-sky camera was subject to numerous reset and brief outage periods due to high connection instability. This issue was resolved on 20 Feb 2020 when the all-sky camera was taken off the secure lab enclave (SLE) and plugged directly into the weather station PC's second ethernet port. EVENT TYPE: SYSTEM DOWN DUE TO REPLACEMENT OF OLD PC AND LINUX SYSTEMS WITH NEWER SYSTEMS WHEN: ~2024/01/23 2200 UTC - 2023/01/24 2230 UTC IMPACT: All data during this period was lost, including the card backup (corruption) while the new systems were tested and configured. EVENT TYPE: ETHERNET TO USB SOFTWARE CONNECTION CORRUPTION, LOSS OF SIGNAL TO ALL-SKY CAMERA WHEN: 2023/08/30 13:26 UTC - 2023/08/30 16:22 UTC IMPACT: Total loss of all all-sky imagery during this period due to lack of network connectivity to Alcor All-Sky Camera. No impact to Campbell weather station data. Network connection restored by power cycling camera (unplug and plug back in) NEW DATA ADDED AND OPERATIONAL: MICRO RAIN RADAR WHEN: 2023/07/26 NOTES: Finished coding and testing new Python program to obtain and process MRR data and include it new all-sky camera imagery plots. MRR data not to be archived as part of the weather station project. MRR available on plots presently avaialble from 01 June 2023 onward. NEW CAPABILITY ADDED: BACKUP SD CARD CONFIGURATON AND INSTALLATION WHEN: 2023/07/25 IMPORTANCE: AFTER THE NETWORK OUTAGE IN THE PREVIOUS DAYS, A SD CARD WAS INSTALLED INTO THE STATION RECIEVER WHICH CAN STORE ALL DATA FILE EXCEPT THE FOR PUBLIC FILE FOR AT LEAD FOUR MONTHS (SONIC ANEMOMETER) UPWARDS TO 430 DAYS (1 MINUTE MET DATA) EVENT TYPE: ETHERNET TO USB SOFTWARE CONNECTION CORRUPTION, LOSS OF SIGNAL TO ALL-SKY CAMERA WHEN: 2023/07/22 12:32 UTC - 2023/07/24 14:37 UTC IMPACT: Total loss of all all-sky imagery during this period due to lack of network connectivity to Alcor All-Sky Camera. No impact to Campbell weather station data. Network connection restored by power cycling camera (unplug and plug back in) EVENT TYPE: DATA INTERRUPTION DUE TO CHANGE OVER TO NEW STATIC IP WHEN: 2023/06/01 08:37 UTC - 2023/06/01 13:29 UTC IMPACT: Loss of 'Public' data during this period. All other files were stored to SD card and have no data gap. All-sky camera data unaffected by this change over. EVENT TYPE: GSFC SLE NETWORK OUTAGE WHEN: 2023/05/27 18:48 UTC - 2023/05/31 14:23 UTC IMPACT: Period of outage exceeded station internal memory and SD card fault. Total data loss of weather station and all sky camera data during this period. Tipping bucket recorders unaffected. EVENT TYPE: BAROMETRIC SENSOR REMOVAL AND REFURBISHING BY FACTORY WHEN: 2023/01/17 14:18 UTC - 2023/02/03 18:17 UTC IMPACT: Barometric pressure data still recorded by station, but is incorrect and should not be used. Sensor refurbisment deemed necessary following numerous, but seemingly random pressure spikes that could not be rationalized by manufacturer. NEW SENSOR OPERATIONAL: ALCOR OMEA8C ALL-SKY CAMERA WHEN: 2023/05/10 NOTES: Finished coding and testing new Python program to camera network connectivity issues. Code now searches files detect instances of network disconnects and restarts the software. NEW SENSOR INSTALL: ALCOR OMEA8C ALL-SKY CAMERA WHEN: 2023/04/01 NOTES: Camera mounted to I-Beam located on B33 A-wing. System testing underway. Data is available, but camera network connectivity issues remain a challenge where there is good data, but many data gaps. EVENT TYPE: TEMPORARY NETWORK OUTAGE WHEN: 2022/07/04 2320 UTC TO 2022/07/05 1302 UTC IMPACT: Total loss of all weather station data during this time period EVENT TYPE: DATA LOSS DUE TO UNEXPECTED CODING ERROR WITH SYSTEM TIME UPDATE WHEN: 2022/05/17 13:13 UTC - 2022/06/01 00:01 UTC IMPACT: During final testing of a python script to update the data logger time (SLE has no external time update access) the system date was changes to 00 UTC on June 01, which tiggered the monthly weather data archiving script which replaced the May weather station with the first few hours of June. All weather station during this period was overwritten and therefore lost. Following this data loss a new SD card was bought and installed in the weather station data logger and the time update code can now only update the hour and not the month and day.
